Meeting Champion Kimber Davison, Vice President and Managing Shareholder of Griffith, Davison & Shurtleff shared with the group a draft of the 2017 AIA A201 General Conditions of the Contract for Construction document, which is updated every 10 years. Kimber is a member of the committee charged with updating the document. Notable changes in the 2017 draft include added verbiage on electronic communications, more detailed rules governing contractors’ abilities to get funding assurances mid-project after significant change orders occur, and the addition of the short yet critical sentence, “The contractor can rely upon the adequacy and accuracy of the design criteria” (making owner/architects culpable for ensuring those criteria are accurate.) The official final document is expected to be released in September.
