Detroit Real Professionals Member Brad Rosenberg from Mid-America Real Estate – Michigan, Inc. reported that his company recently sold 13 acres on a 30-acre site – one of the company’s biggest projects this year. The ground up development that included 26,000 square feet of small shop retail was the largest retail project in the Detroit area in the last few years.
Other discussion and intelligence touched on topics including rental properties in northern Michigan coming up against the legal definition of “residential purpose”, and how strip malls that have a grocery store as an anchor with a non-compete can be fatal to the entire mall if that grocery store cannot sustain its business. Steve Sallen explained that from a public policy standpoint, these “mall killers” can drag down the entire community.
