In anticipation of passage of the massive federal tax reform bill, members of DC’s mastermind group discussed the state of the local workforce, noting that their troubles with finding and retaining talented (and high-grossing) employees wouldn’t be alleviated by the potential tax breaks. Guest speaker Victor Hoskins, director of Arlington’s Economic Development department, agreed that the mismatched workforce is an issue shared regionwide, and discussed his strategies for turning the county’s vacancy rates around and attracting big names like Nestlé. One thing all agreed on: regional cooperation is key to sustaining a suitable workforce and courting business to the area.
