Jane Sauls with Commercial Realty Services of West Georgia, an owner/investor of a rural self storage facility near Carrollton reports that self storage is now a sought after investment thanks to technological advances. What were once rows of simply constructed buildings with manual gates accessible for limited hours, are now state of the art facilities on prime real estate. Thanks to technology, users have an individual code to enter the property linked to management software that allows for ease of access, enhanced safety and streamlined payment and collection systems.
Mike Patterson, also with Commercial Realty Services of West Georgia, adds that the Metro Atlanta area has 2.7M SF under construction or permitted for self storage in 10 counties. Atlanta has 1M SF of absorption every year with dry and climate control storage being built now as mostly multi story due to high land values – $1M an acre in urban areas.
