The Philadelphia Mastermind Group explored the emerging industry of modular construction today with guest speakers Jonathan Weiss from Equinox Management & Construction and Pete Staz from Core Development. They discussed Luna on Pine, a project which included members Paul Sehnert of University of Pennsylvania and Matt McClure of Ballard Spahr. The 5-story apartment building is located near UPenn, but much of the construction was done in Scranton, PA, where the “boxes” were constructed before being shipped and then “set” in Philadelphia. The process of modular construction provides a variety of advantages, including cost savings, efficiency and speed, with the project set to be completed within 9-10 months.
