As the federal General Services Administration seeks to reinvent itself, it may enter into joint ventures or other projects with private developers to build not just office space but vibrant mixed-use space, said guest Patrick Kerr of Integra Realty Resources at the January 12 REAL Professionals DC meeting.

“It’s [no longer] just tenant orientation, but market orientation,” Kerr said. “GSA does not want southwest DC to be a GSA hub. They would like to see more vibrant development.” Look for ’70s era Brutalist buildings to be torn down and replaced with higher, more dense developments that will provide office space for federal workers as well as housing and even retail.
