“Energy Benchmarking” Ordinance recently adopted in Pittsburgh
In very broad terms, the ordinance requires owners of commercial and mixed-use buildings to make an annual report to the City on energy consumption at their properties. The concept, which is now fairly common in many larger cities, is that with this transparency, tenants and purchasers will be better able to compare the “performance” of buildings, thus encouraging owners to modernize and make buildings more energy efficient.
