Excitement Builds Over Kearny Point Redevelopment
Members of the Northern New Jersey Mastermind Group were treated to a detailed presentation of the redevelopment plans for the historic Kearny Point shipyard in Hudson County. Guest speaker Ashlee Sullivan, Community Development Manager & Leasing Associate for Hugo Neu Corporation, chronicled the vision for this exciting project.
Between 1917 and 1950, more than 35,000 workers built and launched 464 merchant ships, steamers and navy fighting vessels. Today, the 160-acre industrial space is being transformed into an innovative, green environment of 2 million plus square feet of co-working and flex-use office space.
Here are a few of the highlights of this exciting project:
• The first office building to be completed (#78) is already 95% leased by 180 businesses with 350 workers. 60% of the businesses are woman or minority owned.
• Phase 1 (2018-19) will feature three buildings with 520K SF of office and community space for 2,800 workers.
• Phase 2 (2019-21) will add another 600K SF of office space, 8,500 workers, plus the start of walkways and outdoor space.
• Phase 3 (2025-27) will feature 3-4M SF of space, 6-7,000 workers, 1.5 miles of waterfront and preserved wet lands as well as community and recreational space.
• All environmental standards will exceed all local, state and federal requirements.
