Attendees welcomed guest speaker, Vittoria Katanski, Executive Director of Hatch Detroit, a nonprofit group that focuses on getting small businesses established in Detroit. Despite being a force of only 2 people, Vittoria laid out some impressive statistics for her organization. They have an annual contest for people who want to start a new business in Detroit and the winner receives $100,000 from Comerica Bank through the Hatch organization. Hatch Detroit has granted $850,000 to new businesses, conducted community service valued at $350,000 and provided 4,000 hours of technical support for their young businesses. The result is there are 44 young businesses with their doors open in Detroit and 22 more scheduled to open in 2020.
