The REAL Professionals Network Gulf South Mastermind Group was joined by Baldwin County Commissioner Tucker Dorsey at their September 27 meeting, held at Exchange 202 in downtown Mobile. Dorsey spoke at length about some of the challenges facing Baldwin County, which sits across the bay from Mobile’s burgeoning manufacturing and industrial base. Dorsey said that Baldwin County has seen explosive growth over the last decade, with the county population swelling from 140,000 residents in 2010 to 201,000 in 2016. And the growth is forecast to continue, with a recent University of Alabama study indicating that by 2040, Baldwin County will be home to 300,000 full-time residents. Part of the challenge caused by that growth is maintaining adequate infrastructure to accommodate it, which Dorsey said is chief among the Baldwin County Commission’s concerns. Also, the county commission has purchased and is actively developing a “Megasite” of 3,000 shovel-ready acres while it searches for the right partner to become an economic engine for the county for decades to come.
