Guest speaker John Bonnot of the Frisco Economic Development Corp. provided an informative overview of this dynamic North Texas city with a population of just 159,000. Arguably, Frisco is best known as the site of The Star — the Dallas Cowboys’ 91-acre world corporate headquarters and training facilities. The Star includes a 12,000-seat indoor practice facility, two outdoor practice fields, offices, entertainment venues, and retail space. Two hotels are planned for the site (including the Omni, slated to open in 2017) and construction has begun on the nine-story Baylor Scott & White Health Sports Therapy and Research Center slated to open in 2018. The Star is the centerpiece of Frisco’s “$5 Billion Mile,” which also includes the 242-acre Frisco Station, 41-acre The Gate, and 175-acre Wade Park mixed-use developments. Driving Frisco’s explosive development is the influx of new employers who are attracted by the city’s low (.46%) tax rate. Bank of America and FM Global are just two examples of companies that have recently announced plans to relocate to Frisco with 200 and 300 employees, respectively, coming to their offices that are currently under construction.
