Brandom Gengelbach of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce addressed the Dallas Mastermind Group sharing information from the neighboring city. Despite the fact that many people unfamiliar with Fort Worth assume it is a bedroom community of Dallas, Gengelbach noted that Fort Worth is the 16th largest city in the country (Dallas is the ninth). Fort Worth’s Chamber is focusing its efforts on addressing the lack of affordable housing in the city as well as attracting more educated, higher-skilled residents to the area. Affordable housing, attracting talent, and attracting businesses, he noted, go hand in hand. Another issue Fort Worth grapples with that many commercial centers in Dallas do not, is a high percentage of individuals living beneath the poverty line. Gengelbach came to Fort Worth from Nashville less than 2 years ago and is in the process of hiring four key individuals who will oversee Fort Worth’s four-pillared, four-year Fortify strategic plan to address business attraction and retention; talent development, attraction and retention; small business and entrepreneur support, and advocacy.
