WASHINGTON, DC: Amazon is Gobbling Up Warehouse Space in Suburban Washington, DC
Amazon is gobbling up warehouse space in suburban Washington, DC. The internet giant is annually taking 500,000 to 1 million square feet of data center space in the Dulles submarket which is already 3-5% vacant. Add to that, their logistics group charged with getting us products quickly, took down 1 million square feet in BWI last year and is currently in the market for another 500,000 square feet.
Even with the GSA also back in the market for large square footage, the REAL Professionals Washington, DC Mastermind Group is still very cautious about the market conditions. There is still no substantial job growth in part due to the different jurisdictions within the metropolitan area that can’t seem to work together to attract new business. Others point to the additional issue of the 21st century city of Washington, DC having a 19th century transportation system.
