Charlotte’s Real Estate industry is finally beginning to get on the radar for foreign investors, especially from China. EB-5 and other kinds of foreign investments were typically made in top US cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago & New York City. Jane Barkley, Senior Commercial Title Attorney at Investors Title Company reported that foreign investors are now heading to less-known cities such as Charlotte, NC & Greensville, SC where they’re able to see faster ROIs and less competition.

Additionally, Barkley brought to the forum the issue of impervious surface, to which RPN guest David Powlen, Studio Principal at LITTLE Diversified Architectural Consulting, shared how his client had to buy additional lots beyond the lot for retail space, to comply with the local impervious surface ordinance. Also discussed was HB2 and how architects in NC will need to take it into account when designing buildings.
