Northern New Jersey is facing changes in demographics, parking needs and multifamily. Demographics are shifting in the outlying suburbs as empty nesters increase, Millennials move eastward, and manufacturing shifts to other areas. Commuter towns and cities are looking at smaller parking per unit plans, pilot programs for multifamily as well as walk/bicycle options. Members report that roadwork due to the stall of the NJ Transportation Trust Fund and the effect of the new Pension Fund on state finances continue to be areas of concern for real estate.
