Liz Ward, Director of Real Estate Development with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Housing Partnership (CMHP), updated Members and guests on the ongoing work of the organization to provide affordable housing and to educate the community of the growing concern of the lack of financially viable alternatives for low-income families. With Charlotte growing at a rate of 100 people per day, coupled with the rising cost of construction, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the demand for housing for low income residents that is affordable. There is a push to look for developers or redevelopers of existing properties to make an allocation of units as affordable housing, but this political battle continues to wage on.
