Attendees of the April meeting of the Dallas Multi-Discipline Group heard from guest speaker Mick Granlund of O’Brien Architects. O’Brien Architects beat out a dozen firms to win the coveted master-plan contract for The Star – the Dallas Cowboys’ 90-acre corporate headquarters, practice fields, and entertainment district. O’Brien Architects was last in line to present to Jerry Jones and family (the presentation venue being the offices of a competitor that seemed the front-runner to win the project.) The company had invested $30K+ to create a video rendering, complete with Imax-quality sound, to illustrate their vision for the project. At the completion of the roughly 2-minute video, a “stunned” Jerry Jones said, “Can you really do that?” O’Brien won the contract shortly thereafter and is in the midst of bringing that vision to life.
