Members and guests at the Dallas Mastermind Group were educated on the ‘goings on’ in Allen, TX by Dan Bowman, Executive Director, and David Ellis, Assistant Director, from the Allen EDC. Making strategic investments and funding initiatives via a $0.005 tax (basically a half cent), the Allen EDC has a keen focus on the 900 acres that sit along Hwy. 121. Dan and David shared the current activity in over a dozen active developments covering office, retail and residential sectors. Where once Allen was considered too green to be home to major corporations, many large users are looking to Allen to put down roots as its residential and amenity options have grown. The largest development play, Monarch City by The Howard Hughes Corporation, was a site that was under consideration for Amazon’s HQ2. Consisting of 270 acres, of which 31 acres are owned by the Allen EDC, Monarch City is in for zoning now with a Master Plan that would include over 9 million square feet of commercial and residential space.
