The Real Estate Professional as Investor: Select Considerations

Chicago’s September speakers, Michael Tuchman and Matthew Hinderman of Levenfeld Pearlstein, LLC enlightened attendees with information about the considerations real estate professionals need to be cognizant of when investing. Michael and Matthew are both tax attorneys and lead the firm’s structuring and tax practices for real estate, including joint ventures, investment funds, tenancy-in-common programs and real estate investment trusts. Their presentation addressed everything from what special purposes entity to use to own real estate, where should the LLC be formed, what should an LLC operating agreement look like to partners or investors – what are the regulatory issues.

Prior to the presentation, attendees shared information about recent real estate trends and transactions within their respective real estate business line. The September meeting also welcomed two guests, David Levy of NRC Reality & Capital Advisors and Ashley Szatkowski of Syndicated Equities. Both David and Ashley shared their roles in the real estate arena along with the other attendees.
