Lisa Mallory, CEO of the DC Building Industry Association, visited this month’s Mastermind Meeting to catch attendees up on the trade group’s latest goals and victories. Foremost on the minds of both DCBIA leadership and many group members is the bureaucratic dysfunction and disruptive appeals delaying permits and derailing planned unit developments, as both are major challenges to development in the city and which can be a deterrent to the business community. The trade association has recently been involved with such things as amending and testifying before the DC Council regarding the Comprehensive Plan, and in negotiating less onerous regulations and work stoppage orders on behalf of the building industry. The group also enjoyed guest attendees who described such things as the current office market in Anacostia and the pattern of churches looking to reposition to remain financially viable.
