The Golden Triangle is attracting a number of new retailers, and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is investing in boosting development, keeping streets clean, and beautifying the city’s core. Pittsburgh’s Mastermind Group heard from Downtown Partnership President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup at this month’s meeting. The Partnership, 24 years old, operates a special taxing district that generates about $2 million annually to help support the nonprofit’s activities such as a clean-up program.

Waldrup reported that the hotel market is relatively strong, along with residential. There are about 4,000 units in the pipeline for residential development. The core—home to city, county, state, and federal government offices as well as offices for major corporations—is surrounded by other neighborhoods that have experienced growth including the North Shore and Strip District.

The Downtown Partnership has helped create a more vibrant Market Square, and Waldrup said they’d like to increase the number of people living Downtown and continue to bring in more retail.
