The Philadelphia Mastermind Group was treated to two separate presentations from fellow members. Wendi Kotzen of Ballard Spahr gave a brief explanation of Qualified Opportunity Zones and discussed which types of investors may be interested and how the uncertainty is affecting potential interest in the program. Jim Karmolinski of Kelly Maiello Architects and Tom Friese of Pennoni Associates then discussed the design and engineering feat undertaken in the construction of the underground tunnel connecting the new Comcast Tower to the existing Comcast Center and to Suburban Station. They talked about the obstacles presented in rerouting active utilities, coordinating with SEPTA and working with the Arch Street Presbyterian Church to create a solution that was good not only for the Comcast buildings, but also for the local community.
