Pittsburgh June 2021 – Key Take-Aways

• Jim Futrell with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development shared that they recently released their business investment scorecard for the region. Not surprisingly, the tech sector is up, but life science announcements are up 3x. Manufacturing, robotics and distribution centers are also all increasing in announcements from past years.
• Grossman Yanak & Ford’s David Kerin continues to work with clients on tax credits and how to charge and categorize development fee advantageously. Also, David encouraged all attendees to look closely at their qualifications for getting the Employee Retention Credit.
• Ray Steeb of eFacility commented on the price of wood and metals being a challenge to getting construction projects done, even the modular projects they are working on. On the facility maintenance side of the business, many companies are heavily focused on how to economize their expenditures.
• Guest Eric Vanistendael with Renew 412 has a consulting business that focuses on vacant land and older property reclamation. They also focus on conservatorship work relating to the Pennsylvania Act of 2008 and new markets tax credits with a goal to seeing more of these opportunities put to use in Pittsburgh.
• UPitt’s Innovation Center’s Sarah Fullwood invited everyone to attend their Summer Social on July 12th with more info to follow!
