At the August 23 Gulf South Mastermind Meeting, there continued to be discussion regarding the blossoming industrial resurgence in the Mobile market. Pete Riehm of NAI Mobile said he was seeing a steady stream of industrial inquiries, and that surprisingly, very few of those industrial inquiries had anything to do with two of the area’s major industrial players, Airbus and Austal shipyard. In regard to the industrial boom, Riehm gave the example of a sheet metal fabricator he recently helped move from a 5,000 square foot facility to a 14,000 square foot facility. He said the owners of the company couldn’t keep up with the demand, which was coming not from Airbus or Austal, but from heavy industry in Texas. Riehm said the expansion of the aforementioned fabricator is not an anomaly in Mobile of late, and that very little of the overall growth in industrial is tied to Airbus or Austal.
