Mike Rogers of Rogers and Willard announced that he has been working with the School of Architecture at Auburn University to bring one of its design studios to downtown Mobile. Rogers said the university has made a commitment to locate its Industrial Design Studio in Mobile, and they are now currently looking for a high-profile location to house the program. At the outset, the studio will likely feature a faculty member and approximately 15 students who will work on various industrial design projects for well-known companies around the country. Students in the studio will work on industrial problems and create prototypes using CNC machines and 3D printers to model their solutions. Domestic and international students will agree to work at the studio for a semester, and Rogers indicated there would also be a landscape architecture component involved in the studio as well. No timeline was provided for the opening of the studio, but Rogers reiterated that a commitment had been made to find a site and set up shop in Mobile.
